Clarence Abbott's Chair
Clarence Abbott's Chair. This chair invokes many fond memories for Clarence's grandson, Kurt Dudt. For a short period in the early 1950's, Kurt lived with Clarence and Ruth Abbott. Kurt's father, Buzz Dudt was in the Army at Camp Atterberry in the state of Indiana training troops for the Korean War. Kurt's brother, Eric, was sick with a fatal case of Leukemia. Their mother was at Eric's bedside at the base hosipital and couldn't care for Kurt. So Kurt was sent back to Mount Lebanon to live with his grandparents to wait out the outcomes. Clarence (Pa-Pa!) would watch westerns and cartoons with Kurt each day as they sat in this chair. Kurt says, "It was very comforting to be there with him as the rest of my life was in disarray."
